So I strongly urge you to clear 52-53 gigabytes off your hard drive and prepare to spend several sessions with the game launched as you download and not do anything else with your PlayStation. While the launcher does not specify how large the file was, the final file size on the hard drive was a whopping 26 gigabytes. In my personal experience this download took ~8 hours in three sessions over two days over a 25mbps wifi connection. Again, this process can only be continued/completed by launching the game and cannot run in the background. Unlike other games where you download a compressed "capsule" of the actual game (a process that can be continued in the background and/or at night via the PS+ settings), The Last of Us downloads as a ~140mb file (plus 16mb manual), which when run downloads a ~111mb patch, which then turns around and launches a pretty full screen black-and-white photo and proceeds to download a file of unspecified large size.
If there's anyone considering taking advantage of the discount in North America on The Last of Us this week ($35.99), you should be aware that the file you download from the PlayStation Store is deceptively small.
